Unexpected, this “corner of paradise” in Nantes, a free plot of 326 m². Unexpected but regulatory constraints apply: a non-buildable wooded area describes a crescent shape to the south. Unexpectedly, all that remains is to contemplate the two neighboring cedars. The program varies throughout the project development:

  • Is it a single residence?
  • Are there two residences?
  • Is it an office and a house?
  • Should the kitchen be open or closed?
  • Is a cellar really necessary?

These back-and-forths, these adjustments are guided by the primary choice to maintain a regular grid of 3.70 m posts on the south facade, into which the programming will fit. Indeed, the house stretches lengthwise on the plot, and the ground floor portion narrows down to just 3 m wide. To fully enjoy the garden, the entire ground floor facade is glazed to its full height. The upper floor, more closed off like a levitating box, is punctuated by multiple openings, preserving domestic privacy. It also allows the sun from the west to penetrate to the end of the garden. The facades are composed of vertical larch wood cladding from France and exotic wood exterior joineries.
